Valentin Bureau
Buro’s multidisciplinary practice (painting, photography, tufting, modeling) revolves around the mask, conceived as a threshold between what is revealed and what is concealed.
In her work, the masks are constructed, symmetrical, almost ritualistic. They reassure, organize, and give the gaze a legible form, sometimes drawing on the realms of symbolism and ornamentation.
But beneath these surfaces, altered faces emerge—“broken faces”—fragmented, unstable, sometimes bordering on the non-human.
These faces bear the traces of emotions and transformations. Lines deviate, forms overflow, as if something were resisting being contained. The face then becomes a shifting territory, a living memory where inner life surfaces.
The “Gueules cassées” project is part of an evolving timeline. As the works unfold, forms take shape, masks become more defined, and an iconography unfolds. Little by little, a civilization emerges: a collection of figures guided by lived experience and emotions, where each piece constitutes a fragment of a language under construction.
In this gap between order and overflow, between mask and face, buro’s work questions what is shown—and what, inevitably, ends up appearing. -

Marilyne Houde
Marilyne Houde is an illustrator and graphic designer whose work explores the connections between people, emotion, and the imagination. Through a sensitive and narrative approach, she creates images that invite contemplation and the discovery of worlds that are both familiar and poetic.
With a bachelor’s degree in visual arts, she has long nurtured an interest in photography, painting, and portraiture. Her work focuses on expressions, gazes, and details that reveal a story or an emotion. Whether inspired by real people or drawn from her imagination, her characters occupy a central place in her artistic practice.
Today, she works primarily in digital collage and illustration, mediums that allow her to combine spontaneity with narrative freedom. Color also plays an essential role in her practice, due to its ability to influence perception and evoke emotional responses.
Her work has been published notably as editorial illustrations in *24 heures* and *Unpointcinq*, as well as in literature, where she has created book covers for novels. Through her images, she seeks above all to create a space for interpretation, where the viewer’s perspective completes the narrative.
